Hand Pies

Do you remember those “Fruit” pies that you used to get from the gas stations? I think they were from Hostess. The were so yummy when I was a kid. Maybe they are still around, I honestly have no idea! As an adult I can not imagine eating one, the thought makes my teeth hurt. All that extra sugar that it was coated in, not to mention the filling!

I decided to try to make these for my kids’ (and husband’s) lunch box treat. It works wonderfully! So simple and easy. Pie crusts are easy to make but if you don’t have time frozen is a great substitute. A bit of homemade pie filling, try our blueberry pie filling recipe, and an egg and dessert is ready! No pie filling… Give jam a try, Strawberry Jam is GREAT!

Hand Pies


~ Pie Crust (homemade or frozen)

~ Pie Filling (Blueberry Pie Filling)

~ Egg White



Roll out pie crust to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into approximately 6 inch circles.

Place about 2 tablespoons of pie filling in the center of each circle.

Moisten edge of crust with water and fold in half. Crimp edges with a fork pressed along the outter edge.

Poke 2-3 small holes in the top crust.

Beat egg white until frothy and brush over top of each pie.

Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before eating. Wrap in waxed paper when cool.
